#RadicalReadz: Intersectional Chicana Feminisms: Sitios y Lenguas

From Carmen Perez-Jordan: As we begin Hispanic Heritage Month, I am honored to share with all of you Aida Hurtado’s book, Intersectional Chicana Feminisms: Sitios y Lenguas. This one is personal, and it’s not just because I and my sisters Tamika Mallory and Linda Sarsour appear in the pages. I first met Professor Hurtado when I was an undergrad at UC Santa Cruz — she was the first woman who looked like me who I had seen teaching at that caliber. I took her class on Chicana Feminism, which gave me the language to contextualize my lived experience and introduced me to organizing through an intersectional lens. I moved from theory to practice as I brought those lessons into my work and it’s why the 2017 Women’s March on Washington was grounded in intersectional feminism. It was an honor to show my appreciation for all her teachings and her mentorship by inviting her to speak at the Women’s March. I hope that you enjoy this masterpiece and apply the teachings to your life and organizing.
